Quitting a job is rarely so gratifying in adulthood. As teenagers, we rammed our Fun Burger garrison caps into the boss man’s chest without a care in the world. That job wasn’t doing the résumé any favors. As adults, it’s not that easy.

As adults, we have to leave with tact, two-week notices, and phony handshakes. We leave with the truth unsaid. Your boss’ recommendation is vital, and those last three years on your résumé are integral to your next employer’s impression.

This reporter for KTVA, a CBS affiliate in Anchorage, Alaska, did not get that memo. Charlene “Charlo Greene” Egbe quit on air last night during the 10 o’clock news. After reporting an upcoming bill vote to legalize weed in Alaska, Greene announced that she is the proud owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club.

Then she went just shy of throwing a middle finger to the proverbial man.

“Everything you heard is why I, the actual owner of the Alaska Cannabis Club, will be dedicating all of my energy toward fighting for freedom and fairness, which begins with legalizing marijuana here in Alaska,” she said. “And as for this job. Well, not that I have a choice, but fuck it. I quit.”

After Greene walked off stage, she took to IndieGogo to start a crowd-funded campaign to turn Alaska, a red state, green. She wants $5,000 to fund her travels as she spreads the word all over the state.

She says she is the right person for the job because “few people fighting for marijuana legalization in Alaska are as media savvy, well educated on the marijuana industry, passionate, professional and completely dedicated to passing this initiative as me, the only person in Alaska that has had the balls to face the injustice.” If successful, Alaska’s unlikely legalization will be another step in getting this ball rolling across the country.

Since Colorado and Washington have led the way to legalized marijuana nationwide, publications like The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and of course Esquire have endorsed the progress. It’s nice to see news outlets joining the fight, even if it is they had no idea it was about to happen.
